The second race of the season, the Memorial Cup, will be held this Saturday, July 18, at 10:30 a.m.

It’s earlier than our usual 1:30 p.m. start because I have to be back in St. Paul by 5 p.m. or I’m a dead man.

It should be a great day for sailing. The forecast calls for a west wind of between 5 and 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15.

So it could be perfect day for a rematch of the earlier Fourth of July Race. In that race, Grant Moos came in first, followed by a tie for second between Mariah Crabb (Bob as crew), and Ki Hoffman (Byron as crew), Pete Roberts (Rich Becher as crew) and Andy Nelson (Lance Hauge as crew).

Mariah sailed a couple of great races, narrowly squeaking by Ki in the second race for the first time in her life.

There is a chance of thunderstorms on Saturday. So look to the green, yellow or red flag at the end of my dock that will indicate whether the race is on or not. I’ll text or call everyone, too.

And we’ll send up a smoke signal for the Rear Admiral (Committee Boat Maestro Dick Staunton) because he doesn’t have a line of sight to my cabin.

Hope to see everyone out on the lake on Saturday.
